Lo stile originario dei klezmorim rivive grazie a questi straordinari musicisti newyorchesi riuniti attorno a Frank London, soprannominato “the King of Klezmer-Trumpet”.

Formazione di ottoni provenienti dai più famosi gruppi klezmer del mondo (Klezmatics, Hasidic New Wave, Naftule’s Dream, Paradox Trio, Les Miserables Jazz Band, Shirim) la Klezmer Brass Allstars rivolge tutto il suo interesse sulla ricerca delle radici della musica klezmer nell’Europa dell’est.

Il progetto di Frank London mira a scoprire il modo in cui la musica klezmer viaggiava, come attraversava i confini e interagiva con i suoni delle altre tradizioni popolari. La sintesi che scaturisce dal loro lavoro tende a evocare una musica immaginaria che fonde aspetti del jazz, della musica delle Gypsy brass band e del klezmer.

La loro più appropriata definizione è una moderna “Jewish-Oriental village brass band”, che nasce innanzitutto come tributo alla leggendaria “Shikere Kapelye”

(Orchestra Inebriata o, più volgarmente, fanfara di ubriachi), una brass band del 19° secolo originaria di Odessa composta da un gruppo di musicisti che ha fatto nascere il “soul” del klezmer e ha dato ai klezmorim la loro leggendaria cattiva reputazione. Dalla scarsa documentazione esistente emerge che la “Shikere Kapelye” ha gettato le basi della musica Ebraico-Ottomana con bulgars, freylekhs, khosidls, doine, hora, waltzer, vero cuore del repertorio klezmer e dal sapore tipicamente “orientale”.
