La “asian music” era ancora etichettata come esotica, il dub e il reggae venivano considerati morti e chiunque suonasse dance music a qualsiasi altro ritmo che non fosse 100 bpm veniva giustiziato nella pubblica piazza. In questa triste epoca emerse un line-up in continua evoluzione di DJ, produttori e musicisti provenienti da differenti background ed estrazioni culturali uniti dal rifiuto di essere inquadrati in uno stile e convinti che mescolare generi musicali non dovesse essere una oscura presa di posizione artistica. Da allora i TGU sono noti per la loro capacità unica di mescolare stili e ritmi

musicali fregandosene dei generi musicali, barriere tecnologiche o del buon senso. A volte sono stati superesposti ed altre di nicchia ma non hanno mai smesso di essere influenti. Hanno mixato tutto ciò che, se non fosse stato per il loro coraggio artistico, nessuno mai avrebbe pensato di mettere insieme; adesso quel “mash-up” è la regola. Loro invece, sono già un passo oltre...

Nello spazio sonoro nato dal sincretismo dell'ensemble, si odono gli echi del miglior nu asian sound per attraversare tutti i territori possibili e dialogare con tutti gli strumenti, i suoni e le voci di ogni 'contrada' mondiale.

Il primo LP del gruppo, intitolato Dream of 100 Nations, rimane uno dei capolavori insuperati del nuovo breakbeat mondiale. Alla sua uscita le musiche apolidi, senza margini, con suoni estrapolati dalle frontiere dilatate del mondo pop dei TGU divennero paradigmatiche di una nuova stagione sonora. Rimescolando elementi di world-music, ambient, dub, hip hop e techno, e recuperando idee della musica new age, l'ensemble ha messo in pista sonorità etniche al ritmo di dance. Il carisma esotico di Natacha Atlas poi, ha aggiunto al melange, nel corso degli anni, un tocco sensuale e femminile.

La musica dei Transglobal è, a tutti gli effetti, un caleidoscopico viaggio fra riti liberatori, segreti ritmici, estetiche gioiose, scarti improvvisi e fantasiosi. Il tutto con unico obiettivo: l'esaltazione del groove più profondo, trovando il filo rosso che interseca sensibilità diverse e che collega lo sfaccettato universo sonoro mondiale.
